Which Radio Controlled Helicopters Suit You?
If you’re searching the Internet for a quality radio controlled helicopter, you’ll soon find that the process can be fairly complex. Before you buy, there are a number of things you should consider.
For instance, you first need to accurately evaluate and classify your own RC skill set. Be honest with yourself in determining whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced user.
This information is key to your decision making as most RC helicopters are grouped into these categories to ensure you get a model that suits you for the right price.
Entry level radio controlled helicopters are most commonly two or three channel models. This means they are able to fly in either two or three different directions, such as up and forward, for example.
Radio controlled helicopters designed for novices are usually much smaller when compared to advanced models. The smaller models also cost less, making them more affordable for those who are new to RC helicopters.
Intermediate RC helicopter models usually have three or four channel flying capabilities, and generally cost more than their entry level counterparts.
Advanced models can be quite involved. These radio controlled helicopters often have up to six channels, and they are much larger and heavier than their less advanced counterparts.
The advanced models will have features such as tail rotor belt drive systems, auto rotation systems and high strength carbon fibre tail stands making them more durable as well as being able to perform better.
Because advanced radio controlled helicopters are bigger, they also retain more stability in inclement weather and strong winds.
Almost all RC helicopters use lithium polymer batteries, with standard AA batteries in the transmitter units. Petrol and nitro versions may also be available, but these are not standard.
Because these models are operated with electricity, they aren’t terribly expensive to run, contrary to the common belief that their operating costs are very high.
More common of late have been radio controlled helicopters with unique features such as battle models that fire ammunition or my personal favourite are those that come complete with CCTV.
With flying times varying from just a few minutes to much longer I really do believe that on a nice summers day these RC machines are a real joy for all the family.
By choosing a radio controlled helicopter that fits your skill and ability, you’ll be able to enjoy these incredible machines. Before long, you’ll be hooked. I most certainly was!
