Honey Bee Supplies - Beginner Beekeeper? What you MUST Know.

When it comes to buying honey bee supplies, you can’t just go to Walmart and get the things you need. This is a pretty specialized industry, with very specialized equipment. But the internet has made getting your supplies much easier. In fact, you can order just about anything you need for your beekeeping enterprise online.

But, before you get out your wallet and buy any beekeeping supplies, you need to get an education in beekeeping. This doesn’t have to be super expensive, but you should buy a book or take a course on basic beekeeping.

With this field there is a lot of detail to learn. A book or course will help you make some important decisions. Like how many hives to buy and whether or not to pursue keeping bees as a hobby or business.

You will also learn about the habits of bees. What to do if you lose your queen. What types of flowers produce the best honey and many other valuable and important things. Some of the more popular materials on the market today are the books ‘Beekeeping for Beginners’ and ‘Beekeeping for Dummies’.

There are three things you will need no matter what the size of your operation.

-Bee hives -either bought by you or built by you.

-Protective clothing - including a hat and mask.

-Smoker or Liquid Smoke - to make the bees docile.

There are plenty of other things that you can buy as well, but these will get you started.

If you are a new beekeeper, start small. Beekeeping equipment can get pricey. Buy only what you need until you are sure that you like it. You can always expand out your activities from there to include more hives later.

Beekeeping is rewarding and interesting. Be sure that you get started off right.
