The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most popular teams in the NBA, next to the Boston Celtics that is. Last season, the team was devastated by a loss to the Celtics during NBA finals. The Lakers are still recovering from this loss, yet fans stay loyal. Even with this disappointment, Lakers tickets continue to sell.

You are guaranteed to see celebrities at every game, and surely have heard of the drama that seems to follow the team around (or is caused by players). Surprisingly, it is not the celebrities that attract the fans, nor does the drama discourage fans from purchasing. Players like Kobe Bryant, Pau Gaso, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, Derek Fisher, and Sasha Vujacic are what the fans come to see - game after game. All of these players are responsible for holding the team together and for their fame.

The Lakers were not always as well known or skilled. In the 1980’s, when players such as Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worth, is when the Lakers began to win big and attract attention. Pat Riley coached the team during this time, and brought them to many championship games - of which they won 5! This is when the team began to have a following.

In more recent years fans seem to be following players like Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Coach Phil Jackson has led the team to the NBA finals multiple times since the year 2000. The Los Angeles Lakers holds the second highest number of championships in the entire NBA; second only to their rivals the Boston Celtics. They do hold one thing over their rivals; they have the longest winning streak of all NBA teams.

Staples Center, in Hollywood, is the stadium where many different Los Angeles Teams play, but is known as the home of the Lakers (mostly because of their fame). The stadium seats over 19,000 and - during home games - is typically sold out.

Lakers fans - including their celebrity fans - are loyal! They continue to buy tickets even when they experience a devastating loss like the one during last seasons’ finals. Jack Nicholson, Chris Rock, Denzel Washington, Dyan Cannon, and Andy Garcia are just a handful of the celebrities that you are likely to see at a Lakers game. Due to high-ticket sales and after a gross of $560 million, the team has been named as the NBA’s most valuable team.

The Los Angeles Lakers hold records for the most wins in the NBA - 2,905 - along with the most appearances at the NBA finals - 29. Additionally, MVP awards have been given to a number of players such as Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Their skill is what makes them popular, without it they wouldn’t hold the records they have, nor would they have such high ticket sales. If you have the chance, this is a game worth seeing. Tickets are a bit pricey due to their popularity, but it is well worth it.
