Different Methods For Conserving Water
Nearly three-quarters of our planet is covered by water, but only 1 to 2 percent of it support terrestrial life. Growing human needs, industrialization and agribusiness consumption are draining our reservoirs and straining water distribution. Hence, you should try to conserve water wherever possible.
Toilets are the biggest users of water in a house. New toilets are now available with dual flush system, so that you can select a big or small flush according to your need. Using small flush button can save up to 5 liters of water in a single run.
A lot of water gets wasted through leakage only. So it is required to be checked at regular basis. For checking your cistern, you can place few drops of food coloring in it and after 10-15 minutes if you get that color in your toilet bowl, than your cistern needs a plumber as it is leaking.
In bathroom also, you should not waste much water while taking shower, for that you can take a low flow shower head. Moreover, in winters a lot of people waste cold water coming from shower while waiting for hot water to come, but this is very wrong. One should collect that water and use it for any other suitable purpose like flushing.
Prefer to wash your car in a grass lawn, as it will serve dual purpose for you. One your car will be clean and other, you don’t have to water your lawn that day. Try to water your lawn and plants at the time when sun is not so bright to avoid wastage of water due to evaporation.
Try to put same kind of plants together while plating your garden as it will save water for you. Also for maintaining the moisture of your soil use mulch with plants, shrubs, vegetables etc. Mulch is used to slow down the evaporation of moisture.
Take every possible step to save water in kitchen also, like apply less detergent on utensils so that less water is required to wash them off. Wash fruits and vegetables in some container filled with water so that the remaining water can be used somewhere else also like in garden.
In short, save water to save earth and your life. For fulfilling this, implement all the above mentioned steps in your practical life.
