A Madden NFL 10 Review
In general the Madden NFL 10 is a more realistic and enjoyable game. And true to its realistic nature, it has always had a few good and bad that has been troubling the entire series. Passing the ball is very realistic and the Pro-Tak adds to the games glamor quotient. Besides this, the lined menus work well to navigate easily and the online franchise works excellently well. The AI is a lot better this time, but on the trend of a bit more fixing to get it just right. The referee cut scenes need to be minimized a little more. And above all the commentary needs a lot more improvement.
In both the offline and online versions, the game tweaks are very obvious. Like advertised the Pro-Tak looks very realistic. It’s interesting to watch the players struggle to pull down the ball carrier which resembles real game. And the game avoids too many breakaways and because of this it seems to have a poor down-field blocking form. All these add up to the setbacks and though it does happen similarly in the real NFL, here it happens more often and makes it very unreasonable.
Also, the AI controlled defenses are a huge setback and their inconsistency keeps nagging every now and then. In major games, it’s easy to find that the AI analysis on each move made and then plans strategically based on this and pulls you down. But despite all this, the passing game is realistic here.
The fatigue factor plays a better role in this version. It helps to bring down the star player by constantly aiming the balls at him. The system pulls the player out while the fatigue factor shoots up. But the game punishes those with repetitive play calling with injuries. But the way the player models are presented are more refined.
Also here the fatigue plays a higher role than in previous versions. This helps to make the star player go down by constantly focusing your balls at him. Unfortunately this game calls for punishment in cases of repetitive play calling with injuries. The look of the game is more improved and refined with finer details in terms of player models such as patches, and the presentation elements that add to the TV broadcast feel.
Also, certain time for no obvious reason the fans on the stands face their backs to the players. Plus focusing on the depth of field gives way to slight visual distortion before the game starts, which gets set after a second or two. The commentary is real bad and this is the weakest part of this game. Chris Collinsworth has made good effort to give interesting comments while his play by play man Tom Hammond is terrible. His commentary is bland and lacks anything interesting.
It’s nice to know that the EA has taken great care to go down to the fundamentals of the game with Madden NFL 10 and made some constructive changes with regard to that. While the passing game is much more refined here, the running game is good compared to other versions. The Offline franchises and the Pro-Tak are reason enough for anyone to get involved in this year. ’s game. Also, the new co-option feature which lets two people to play on the same system is another added feature. The camera and its positioning need more improvement. Also, the inconsistencies on the AI defense mechanism need to be taken care of. Irrespective of these setbacks, the game is still a hit and with just these minor changes it would be the best game ever played.
Football fans are going to love this game. Others may want to rent Madden NFL-10 before they purchase it. Find more game reviews and information on video game rental sites at GameRentalCentral.
